HP Blackbird 002

Price : $2,500 - $6,500 ($6,000 as tested)

HP Blackbird 002 ($5,400 direct), a pedigreed gaming system using technologies from both companies. This system—named after the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird reconnaissance plane—gives HP the weapon it needed in the fight against rivals such as Alienware, Falcon Northwest, Overdrive PC, and Dell (with its XPS line). Little touches and consolidated improvements from both HP and Voodoo make the Blackbird the most compelling gaming system I've seen since I started seeing dual-graphics-card overclocked systems back in 2004.

CNET Review :

The good:
Best-in-class design; platform-bending hybridization helps the system, your upgrade path, and potentially the industry at large; aggressive overclocking leads to record-setting performance.

The bad: Aggressive exterior design not for everyone; skimpy one-year parts-and-labor warranty.

The bottom line: HP's Blackbird 002 earns the highest rating this editor has ever given a desktop PC. Its design rivals the Apple Mac Pro, it takes risks that benefit your upgrade path, it's fast, and it's competitively priced. If you can afford it, and you want a high-end gaming PC, buy this one. End of story.
